About ABOUT
The Greater Cleveland Sport Fishing Commission (GCSFC)
was formed in 2004 when a small group of tournament anglers joined
forces with The Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau, the
Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Expositions Inc, and the Ohio
Division of wildlife.
In only three years the GCSFC has generated a 9.5
million dollar economic impact on the regional economy, through its
promotion of professional fishing tournaments for Greater Cleveland.
These included the 2004 Professional Walleye Tour, 2004 FLW/Everstart
Series Bass Tournament, and the 2006 FLW/Stren Series Bass Tournament.
The long range economic projections will dramatically increase with
international broadcasts of the 2007 FLW Walleye World Championship,
scheduled to reach over 300 million viewers, world-wide.
These events have also attracted thousands of
tourists, consisting of professional and amateur anglers, as well as
tournament and media officials.
The GCSFC has the lofty goal of making the
shoreline of Lake Erie off Cleveland a Mecca for both casual and
professional anglers, thereby creating a new revenue stream of tourism
dollars through sport fishing.
